We often believe energy must come from an outside source, yet it’s fascinating how once we hear exciting news—-we immediately have boundless energy. We don’t suddenly need that cup of coffee, and our natural endorphins are flowing like crazy.
I strongly believe that the energy we need is ALWAYS within us. It’s right there. However, this isn’t to say there aren’t a few tools that we can use to help ignite our fuel.

Here at my top 12 ways to boost your energy—naturally.
1. Say bye to negativity.
As humans, we waste a large amount of energy through negativity – so it’s important we use our energy wisely. This may sound silly, but negative energy is physically draining. Just don’t waste precious energy arguing, spending time with negative people, or speaking/thinking pessimistically. Worry & stress take a heavy toll on your energy levels. This is all wasted energy that could be used to get positive shit done.
2. Recharge your batteries.
My close friends say, “Pratyaksha, how do you always have energy every day?”
My doorman calls me Little Energizer Bunny for a reason. Unfortunately, due to my high energy & extroverted personality, I must recharge to avoid burnout. I take complete rest days few times a month. Taking a “rest day” doesn’t make you lazy, it makes you HUMAN. Our brains and bodies need sporadic vacations from our hectic emotional and physical lives. It’s vital you stop listening to the static from the outside world, and listen when you need to enjoy a healthy dose of sloth. Occasional laziness could be a great way to boost your productivity.
3. Let the sun in.
Your body needs vitamin D (from sunlight) to keep energy levels at their peak. Let natural light into your bedroom each morning. Light is nature’s way of telling your internal clock that it’s the time to start the day. If you still feel you are deficient in Vitamin D, I highly suggest you supplement.
4. Sip on green tea throughout the day.
I learned the hard way (face planted on my bed by 11am), my body is a very fast metabolizer of coffee. Aka it hits me hard, and I crash. This is no Bueno. You want to slowly metabolize caffeine into your blood so you have a steady stream of energy. Discover if you are a fast or slow metabolizer of caffeine. Is coffee leading you into a mid-day slump? If yes, you may want to switch to green tea. Tea does not contain as much caffeine as coffee, but enough to produce a response without causing the “jittery effect” associated with too much caffeine.
Green tea is loaded with polyphenols like flavonoids and catechins, which function as powerful antioxidants.
I don’t go one day without my favorite Tetley Green Tea tea packets. It’s a good addiction 😉
5. Alkaline your life.
Keep the body’s pH in balance. Choose mostly organic meats when possible. Increase your intake of alkaline powerhouse foods such as dark green vegetables, sprouts, and fruits. Consume apple cider vinegar; add lemon to your water; supplement with probiotics and digestive enzymes to help balance the body’s pH and overcome acidosis.
Remember negative relationships are just as toxic for your body. Sit down and really think about the relationships in your life. Who is draining your physical and emotional energy? It may be time to say bye to Negative Nadine. You can only change your own life by choosing who can be a part of it.
6. Get upside down.
Purposely turning ourselves upside down is contrary to our human physical nature. And this is why it’s SO SO good for you. Reversing blood flow for even 2 minutes a day can immediately improve energy and brain function. Down dog, standing forward folds, legs up the wall, legs elevated on a pillow, and happy baby are all great ways to get the head below the heart.
7. Drink up.
Water is the key to sustained daily energy. Dehydration leads to fatigue, which slowly eats away at the bodily functions you need to get through the day. The more water you drink, the more awake and alert you’ll feel. Oh, and water is also the fountain of youth and a fantastic natural fat burner. Water pretty much rocks.
8. Give your digestive system a break.
Digestion takes energy. Each time you eat, this is works for your digestive system. This is why you’re usually more tired after a large meal. Consider intermittent fasting or keeping your morning meals very light in carbohydrates and calories. This is why I do NOT advocate 5-6 meals a day. Stick to 3 larger meals to keep energy levels stable.
9. Enjoy some chocolate.
You heard me right! Pure cocoa (no sugar added) has incredible health benefits. Flavonoids found in cocoa have been shown to boost cognitive skills and improve mood dramatically. Add 2 tbsp of pure cocoa powder, 1 stevia packet, and hot water and you have delicious mood-boosting hot cocoa!
10. Have a good laugh.
My commitment in life is to laugh (really hard) every single day. No matter what craziness happiness in your day, try to find the humor. Laughter optimizes hormones in the endocrine system, improves immunity, decreases the levels of cortisol and epinephrine, and immediately increases energy and blood flow.
Watch a video clip, call a goofy friend, read a humorous book or ask your Grandma to dance (it gets me every time). We aren’t getting out of this life alive, enjoy every moment & laugh really hard.
11. Supplement properly.
Some of my energy-boosting favorites? Vitamin C, B Complex (especially if you are vegetarian), Rhodiola Rosea, Iron, Magnesium, Melatonin (at night), Green tea & CoQ10.
12. Get to bed an hour earlier.
In true BabyGrandma style, I saved this one for last. Your car may have a full tank of gasoline, but if the battery is dead it won’t start. The same is true for you. You may eat all you want but in the end, if you don’t sleep enough to recharge your batteries, you won’t have the energy. Period. Get to bed. As early as you can. As many hours as you can. All the cool kids are doing it.
As always, I love hearing from you. Try out a few of these tips, and let me know how you feel.
